Recently, I posted about how a “weekend getaway” makes a fantastic gift idea. As you have seen in the last few Friday posts, I have also been doing my best to get out and about myself! Perhaps I could say that it is all to ensure that I have lots of travel material to write about, but if that was the reason, I am confident my spouse would object!
Drawing a circle radius around my home, I start to run out of places to go and things to do, or at least ones that do not require the weather to be perfect. There are a ton of outdoor activities available to me, but I am not a person who volunteers to go cycling when it’s cold and there is a downpour! So as I cross different activities off of my list, I am looking for more weather non-dependent things to do. This is especially important because it keeps dumping rain around here, which is putting a kink in my style.
Heading to Las Vegas is on my list, but not in my budget at the moment, unfortunately. Around here, casinos are a bit of a drive away, but they have reasonably priced hotel rooms, entertainment (shows and gambling!), decent food, and most of them are located adjacent to golf courses. In the Niagara region, the casinos are very close to lots of wineries, too. All of these are good things! The casinos are basically self-contained weekend trip machines!
To plan a weekend getaway to a casino, start poking around Groupon and the like, to see if there are any package deals available. You can also check directly on the homepages of casinos, to see if they are offering any deals at the time. Once you book a deal, then the fun begins!
Pick out your clothes! Casinos can be very fun places to get dressed up. Dust off (lint roll off?) your little black dress and add it to your bag. If you are going to go golfing, make sure you have everything you need for that, including the sunscreen! Pack your cell phone and charger, but remember that you probably won’t be able to take it into the actual casino with you. If you plan to be a serious poker player, bring your shades, they’re for inside, don’t worry about the rain!
Set your budget! Just because you scored an awesome deal on food and lodging doesn’t mean that a weekend getaway at a casino will stay affordable! Make sure you set your budget. Also, know what you’re going to play and how the games work. You don’t want to lose your money because you have no clue what’s going on. If you don’t know what you’re doing, start online. Find an online casino that offers a casino bonus when you sign up, and give it a try. You can find lots of resources online about the various games, like the rules of blackjack, or baccarat, or roulette.
Now that you’ve got a plan, you’ve packed, you’ve practiced and you have a budget, head off on your rainy-day-safe weekend getaway to a casino!
