What Are Truffula Trees?

If you aren’t super familiar with Dr. Seuss and are wondering what a Truffula tree is look no further! We can explain what they are. Truffula trees are based on a real species of tree that Dr. Seuss saw when travelling.

These real life plants are called Western Pasque Flower. Now in the land of Dr. Seuss these trees  first appeared as yellow or white with black striped bark and a large tuft on the top! They are used to be knitted into a thneed.

They have also been described and seen to be red, orange, yellow, pink and sometimes purple in various books and movies. Truffula trees are known to give off the smell of butterfly milk, and the tuft’s are furry to touch and are known to be softer than silk.  Next time you are reading a Dr. Suess book or watching a film look for these trees!

They are found in almost every story/movie!

  1. Dip a paper straw into the melted white candy, and then immediately push into the bottom of a marshmallow. The melted candy will harden, and help keep the marshmallow attached to the paper straw.

  1. Next, take approximately a handful of cotton candy out of the bag. Fluff it slightly to make it into a circular shape, then flip over, add a small indention. Dip the marshmallow into the melted white candy, and then put the marshmallow into the indention. Let it set for about 30 seconds to allow the melted candy to harden slightly, then flip over. You may need to fluff the cotton candy again, and pull it down a bit to cover the marshmallow.
