So ebola. That’s a thing.
It’s a bad thing, yes.
These days, things spread. Enter: THE Christmas Gift for 2014. This is particularly good for your friends who are absolutely freaking out about ebola (Hi Kat). There is a board game, called Pandemic. It has been out there for a few years, now, since 2008, but I think that this year it’s really going to hit the big time.
When you read Pandemic, you might have been thinking about getting yourself a Pandemic Kit. Amazon has a whole selection of such things, primary comprised of respirators, haz mat suits, and antibacterial gel and wipes. At the time of writing, most are sold out. Go figure. You could perhaps try to get your hands on this lovely set:
Deluxe Pandemic Kit for 3-Person Family
It even comes with Danger tape, which might be a great precautionary thing in the first place, to keep infected folks out. I’m thinking zombie apocalypse here.
Anyway, I digress. Let’s get back to the board game, which is infectious, but in an entirely safe way.
Here’s the description:
Four diseases have broken out in the world and it is up to a team of specialists in various fields to find cures for these diseases before mankind is wiped out. Players must work together playing to their characters’ strengths and planning their strategy of eradication before the diseases overwhelm the world with ever-increasing outbreaks. For example the Operation Specialist can build research stations which are needed to find cures for the diseases. The Scientist needs only 4 cards of a particular disease to cure it instead of the normal 5. But the diseases are out breaking fast and time is running out: the team must try to stem the tide of infection in diseased areas while also towards cures. A truly cooperative game where you all win or you all lose.
If you would like a copy for yourself, you can get it here. I might have to pick up a whole stack of them for Christmas gifts this year.
Does just one not strike sufficient fear into your heart? How about an expansion pack!
There are two expansion packs, in fact:
Now, are you ready to have some fun? I sure am. Pandemic-spreading can be coupled with entertainment, thanks to the good folks at Z-Man games. You might even be able to teach some good life-lessons to teenagers while playing.
