Ah Christmas. The time to write letters to Santa.
Or, when you’re older, to send emails to your siblings, parents and in laws, when they message you asking what you would like for Christmas.
Then, you put on your thinking cap, because they want to have choices, not a one-item wishlist that leaves them with a rather specific price point and no choices.
So what I have here is the bulk of my Amazon book wish list, which as you’ll quickly note currently centers around 3 themes. In addition, there are a few other odds and ends. I would of course love to have a tablesaw and a mitre saw, but alas I live in a condo and really can’t justify owning them quite yet.
Go Sun Parabolic Solar Cooker
I have wanted a solar oven for quite awhile and this one is a new design that is much more efficient, much smaller and way more portable. Doesn’t it look awesome?!
Gaia’s Garden- Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture
I am on a permaculture kick, despite living in a condo, and this book is a go-to that everyone recommends to me.
One Straw Revolution
This is another book praised by the biodynamic, organic and permaculture crowds. I can’t wait to read it!
36 Hours USA & Canada West Coast
Our rough plans for 2016 include some road trips, and this book is full of great itineraries. Do you live on the west coast? Can I come visit you?
The Food Lab: Better Home Cooking Through Science
Because #science. I like food, and science.
Staying on-theme, I dream of being able to eat a lot from my guerilla gardening adventures.
Have you heard of molecular cooking? I’ve never tried it, but Alinea is a dining experience, and I am fascinated.
An Experience. Take a look at this video to see what I mean.
Food of Life
My aunt and uncle have a doctoral student as a tenant, who is from Iran. I had some of her cooking while I visited them this summer and I am hooked!
Stacks: The Art of Vertical Food
We have been hosting fancy dinner parties lately and I am obsessed with stacking food.
And I want to be able to plate things better.
Food Presentation Secrets: Styling Techniques of Professionals
There are a lot of choices for plating books, what can I say. I even read reviews!
Modern Buffet Presentation
Yup. More on presentation.
1000 Food Art and Styling Ideas
I think this one is mostly a drool-worthy coffee table book.
Force of Nature
I am a capitalist hippie. That’s a real thing.
The Story of Stuff
See above re: capitalist hippie.
Where am I Eating?
Food security has been a passion topic of mine for quite a long time. I also read Kelsey Timmerman’s “Where am I wearing?” a few years ago and enjoyed the premise. I think this book will be even better, because he set out to make it, instead of deciding to make it halfway through his experiences with clothing manufacturing.
Martha Stewart’s Cookies
My sister in law raves about this book, and her copy was given to her with comments on the front page about which ones were the best.
The index is all photos, at the beginning, with the cookies grouped by type, like soft, chewy, hard, etc. #smart
Cook with Jamie: My Guide to Making You a Better Cook
My cousin is obsessed with this fellow and I must admit that I have learned some sweet techniques while making some of his recipes.
Kitchenaid Ravioli Attachment
I’m hoping to get a used one of these. They are ridiculously expensive, but I miss being able to eat store bought stuffed pasta, and the flavours that I can make at home are way better.
Can I interest anyone in smoked salmon and goat cheese? Mmmhmm, that’s what I thought.
Torx Wrench Set
There’s a wrench that I don’t own! It was a problem recently and I had to borrow one from my friend. That put it on the Christmas wish list mightly quickly.
This would be an awesome couples’ gift for us, so we can have delicious, delicious parties.
Whip Cream Maker
I’ve been told that making coconut whipped cream is really easy with these, and I would love that because I have had horrible luck using my stand mixer. Only one batch has turned out, but good golly was it DIVINE!
I really want to play with stacking food, and my attempts at using a tuna can have not gone very well, the new cans seem to be curved on the bottom.
I want to be able to make fun shapes that you can stick into plates and create amazingly plated dinners.
Yes, this is the kind of thing I do with my spare time. It’s delicious!
There you have it my friends. My rather lengthy, but totally awesome Christmas wish list for 2015.
What are the highlights from yours?
